Billy T inspired this creative adventure into the Pop Music world. As an artist, I had always been simply Americana with my Martin Guitar but he pushed me into a whole new concept as a writer! Writing the lyrics & melody to the tracks from my dear friend (who I miss all the time), the late great Jedi of sound Billy Triplett was so much fun. We sliced & diced and rearranged his original fantastic sampled digi-bits, so that the song could be born. In the vision for the song, my mind's eye is watching the chanteuse diva singing in the old Oriental Theater in Milwaukee, WI. Or maybe I play her in the movie? Ha! That theater is in the east side neighborhood where I started playing music with so many of the city's awesome artists and players. I was hanging out around the Shorecrest Hotel with the musicians that lived there. The art-deco style of that building and the old theater were always flashing through my mind while I was singing this song. This song is an homage to all the Goddesses of the silver screen, the chanteuses of old bohemian Paris & all the female performers today, capturing this essence of regal moulin rouge type magic in music & theater!
lyrics
She got dark eyeliner like Jeannie Harlow,
ruby lips and a pot of gold.
Classy beauty knows her money maker,
will make her a star like Josephine Baker.
“all the boys down on Prospect Avenue
wanna know when do they get to go down slow?”
Strings of pearls, Bollywood bangles,
Venus on the moon is decked out in spangles.
Snakes of desire wrap around her wrist,
Cleopatra eyes and a crimson kiss.
She who has the Gold is a Goddess of the sun
She who has the Gold, rules with lots of love
She who has the Gold, bringin’ light to everyone,
bringin’ light to everyone, bringin’ light to everyone.
Angels above, angels below,
spotlight is strong and the drinks are mellow.
Cat in the corner sippin’ carmel liqueur,
he says,“the scent of her lavender is straight l’amour.”
“all the boys down on Prospect Avenue
wanna know when do they get to go down slow?”
Your gilded heart dangles on a string.
Put your ear to the door. The green faery sings.
Her silhouette flows into a silken stream.
A nightingale flies through your Absinthe dreams.
She who has the Gold is a Goddess of the sun
She who has the Gold, rules with lots of love
She who has the Gold, bringin’ light to everyone
bringin’ light to everyone, bringin’ light to everyone.
“all the boys down on Prospect Avenue
wanna know, when do they get to go down slow?
when do they get to go down slow?
when do they get to go down slow?”
