I wrote the words & melody of this song to the tracks created by my dear friend, the late great Jedi of Sound (B3) Billy Triplett, who I miss dearly & daily. We chopped up all the digibits, rearranged it, and recorded this pop song, channeling love from the goddesses of the silver screen, the nightclubs of old Paris, to the chanteuses & female performers of today! Prospect Avenue is a real place in many cities both metaphorically and literally. It's a street on the east side of Milwaukee near where I started playing music. Its a shout out to the many musical adventures I have had in that city, with its' great musicians & artists. I always imagine I'm singing this one on stage in the old art-deco Oriental Theater just across the block from Prospect.
lyrics
She got dark eyeliner like Jeannie Harlow,
ruby lips and a pot of gold.
Classy beauty knows her money maker,
will make her a star like Josephine Baker.
“all the boys down on Prospect Avenue
wanna know when do they get to go down slow?”
Strings of pearls, Bollywood bangles,
Venus on the moon is decked out in spangles.
Snakes of desire wrap around her wrist,
Cleopatra eyes and a crimson kiss.
She who has the Gold is a Goddess of the sun
She who has the Gold, rules with lots of love
She who has the Gold, bringin’ light to everyone,
bringin’ light to everyone, bringin’ light to everyone.
Angels above, angels below,
spotlight is strong and the drinks are mellow.
Cat in the corner sippin’ carmel liqueur,
he says,“the scent of her lavender is straight l’amour.”
“all the boys down on Prospect Avenue
wanna know when do they get to go down slow?”
Your gilded heart dangles on a string.
Put your ear to the door. The Green Faery sings.
Her silhouette flows into a silken stream.
A nightingale flies through your Absinthe dreams.
She who has the Gold is a Goddess of the sun
She who has the Gold, rules with lots of love
She who has the Gold, bringin’ light to everyone
bringin’ light to everyone, bringin’ light to everyone.
“all the boys down on Prospect Avenue
wanna know, when do they get to go down slow?
when do they get to go down slow?
when do they get to go down slow?”
